Disaster Risk Reduction with SnooCODE and SnooCODE RED

In recent times, every new year seems like a new level of a gruesome video game packed with new waves of disaster for mankind to unravel. We have recently experienced a series of unfortunate events including natural and man-made disasters, wars, epidemics, and the almighty pandemic which many have barely survived, but are quickly led into another.

In 2019, out of nowhere, the world was hit with the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, there has been a series of lockdowns, extreme inflation, water shortages, fuel shortages, wars, extensive fires, floods, severe crop losses and so many others I have lost count of.

Whew…What a time!

Amid all the chaos, there is still an amount of hope that we hold on to, as day in day out we are forced to come up with solutions to the troubles we face as humans.

Some people believe the world is heading into the apocalypse and are seeking religious solutions; Some believe we are dealing with the effects of climate change while others believe everything is just one big conspiracy theory, a fight for power by power-hungry leaders.

We do not have the answer to what is going on around the world, but we do have a contribution to make towards disaster risk reduction around the world – SnooCODE and SnooCODE Red.

Imagine being stranded in the middle of nowhere, in an accident with broken bones and no one to call. Even in the instance where you’re able to reach someone, you are unable to direct the person to your exact location. Also, how much medical assistance could they possibly offer? The best they can do is take you to the nearest hospital. Usually in such situations, even the way you are moved and transported could be the defining factor to life or death.

Here’s how we come in.

SnooCODE and SnooCODE Red provide an ecosystem of next generation addressing and emergency response systems. SnooCODE allows you to generate a unique 5–7-digit code wherever you are anywhere in the world even while you are offline. So, if you are really stuck in the middle of nowhere, especially in an emergency situation, your SnooCODE address can make it exponentially easier for another person like an emergency responder to find you in the best possible time using its  location and Route Optimization features.

Using your SnooCODE address and SnooCODE RED, the emergency responder is now able to locate the nearest and most capable Health Center and is able to transport the casualty safely and quickly. SnooCODE RED is also an effective tool for public healthcare and epidemiology and aids in the effective distribution and verification of medication, vaccines, effective control of diseases and other factors relating to health.

In the wake of the 2014 Ebola outbreak, the WHO’s African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI) identified SnooCODE as a key technology in providing timely emergency care across Africa and in the battle against infectious and vector-borne diseases like malaria, cholera and Ebola, by allowing healthcare professionals to identify the centres of disease and other outbreaks.
