Between May and December 2023, we hosted The Emergency Health Solutions Exchange, a programme implemented under the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Frontiers Champions initiative. Our programme comprised a set of 3 webinars and 1 on-site session, tackling the topic of Emergency Healthcare in Low-Resource Settings.
Each webinar was interactive, with slots for break-out and networking sessions, where participants could connect, share ideas, and build greater networks.
Our 1st webinar took place on Wednesday 17th May 2023, focused on the Emergency Health Problems faced in low-resource settings, with participants from over 20 disciplines and over 15 countries all over the world.
Our 2nd webinar took place on Wednesday 21st June 2023, focused on the Solutions to the problems last identified.
After the 2 webinars, we hosted our emergency service partners from Ghana, Liberia, Cameroon and Kenya in a 3-day on-site workshop at our lab in Accra, Ghana, to test the most viable and cost-effective solutions. See some photos from the on-site session at the bottom of the page.
Our final webinar took place on Wednesday 6th December 2023. We had an insightful review of the top feasible solutions (Starlink Satellite Internet, SnooCODERED Control Centre, e-Insurance, etc.), learnt from our partners’ experience testing them, explored grant opportunities, and enjoyed some networking.
We are immensely grateful to the Royal Academy for sponsoring this programme, and to our partners: African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM); Emergency Medicine Society of Ghana (EMSOG); Ghana’s National Ambulance Service; Liberia National Red Cross Society; Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation (EMKF); Benka Life, Cameroon; Namibia Private Ambulance Services (NPAS).
We look forward to developing the new partnerships formed at our events.
